We are seeking a skilled Plant Engineer to join a dynamic and growing team of Professional Engineers dedicated to new product development and industrialisation of automotive battery technology.
Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering, this role will play a critical part in managing the technical aspects of the pilot plant’s building and support equipment. Key responsibilities include maintaining design integrity, ensuring service capacity, driving process development and improvement, and troubleshooting complex issues.
The successful candidate will apply sound engineering principles to create and maintain stable, reliable processes and plant equipment. You will contribute to both UKBIC’s internal projects and customer proposals, supporting the implementation of next‑generation battery manufacturing technologies.
Ensuring the ongoing design integrity of the current and evolving building, its infrastructure, and process technical services.
* The layout management of the process equipment, and process & site technical services within the building and site.
* The capacity management of site infrastructure and process services.
* Manage and steer service change requests to building, services and process equipment: infrastructure capacity planning, connections, site plan and equipment layouts.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements.
Within projects:
* Analyse all equipment requirements and assist in requisition of equipment.
* Project management and equipment vendor liaison. Interface with the Engineering departments
* Coordinating work with other professional engineers or support staff to meet specified project aims, based on a general approach set out by a Project Lead.
* Responsible for planning own work within a project.
Supporting current operations through:
* Collaborate with various departments to maintain the mechanical integrity of all plant programmes.
* Minimise downtime, lean manufacturing principles and plant reliability.
* The most challenging parts of the role include identifying the best approach to solving plant faults and creating concise engineering reports and recovery plans.
* Prepare reports and support manufacturing engineering in maintenance plans and activities.
* Review and recommend improvements to procedures and perform troubleshooting on all plant activities.
* Resolve issues and assist Maintenance and FM to implement change. Review and recommend improvements to procedures and perform troubleshooting on all plant activities.
Enabling activities:
* Maintain reports and inspection records of all associated plant equipment.
* Validate systems and prepare required documents for all installation proves.
* Supervise and develop less experienced engineers and technicians.
* Contribute to and own team discussions on problem‑solving and work planning
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Experience required:
* Significant and relevant experience in a similar position
* Working knowledge of PLM systems (PTC Windchill preferred, though training will be provided).
* Practical experience in factory and site commissioning.
* Experience in working with DI water, solvent process plant, compressed air, coolant systems, dehumidifiers and other general plant services.
* Experience with equipment used in lithium‑ion battery products is beneficial, not mandatory.
* Knowledge of BIM, MES, software control systems and facilities management is beneficial.
Skills Required:
* Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple projects and technical information.
* Good analytical and practical problem‑solving skills.
* Strong communication and reporting skills. Technical engineering report writing skills (in English).

* Degree in Mechanical/Electrical / Chemical Engineering, or equivalent qualification
