Trust Doctor (CT Level) in General Medicine – Outlier Team/Virtual Ward
This new team was established to promote early discharge to virtual wards and alternative care pathways, supporting medical patients traditionally managed on surgical wards. The post holder will act as an advocate and innovator, encouraging early safe discharge, holistic/lifestyle medicine, and social prescribing to reduce readmission. Ward‑based opportunities may be available for those interested in a specific specialty. The role is part of the middle grade rota and involves out‑of‑hours working.
Main duties of the job
* Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of General Medical patients
* Prepare and manage medical patients placed on surgical wards
* Monitor and offer advice for patients on the virtual ward
* Focus on early discharge to the virtual ward/Acute Care at Home and similar pathways
* Encourage and innovate alternative methods of support to promote early and safe discharge from the medical wards
* Teach and train junior staff and medical students where applicable
* Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
* Participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit
* Attend meetings as appropriate
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
Experience
* Teaching (Medical students, Postgraduates, MDT)
* Experience in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance, and understanding of how this improves the quality of care provided to patients and is embedded in clinical practice
Desirable
* UK NHS Experience
