Do you want to work for an organisation that values difference and includes everyone?
Then the Environment Agency is the organisation for you.
Your work will involve inspecting, repairing, maintaining, and managing flood risk assets, as well as collaborating with others to ensure the delivery of river maintenance across Hertfordshire and North London. Our flood risk assets, such as flood walls, embankments, and flood storage areas, help reduce flood risk to communities and properties.
You will help manage asset data to ensure its quality and reliability, supporting our future investment decisions and evidence-based asset management activities. Additionally, you will assist team members in ensuring that projects involving refurbishment, replacement, or new flood risk management assets provide safe, effective, and long-term solutions.
Using excellent communication skills, you will liaise with internal colleagues, external organisations, and customers seeking assistance or information.
Responding to incidents is a key part of this role. You will be required to participate in incident response and business continuity support, which may include additional payments. Full training and flexible working arrangements will be provided to support your incident role.
The team
Asset management is central to the Environment Agency’s mission to reduce flooding impacts and protect communities. We manage assets throughout their lifecycle—from planning and delivery to maintenance, incident response, and decommissioning—while also addressing climate change effects. Our diverse assets require a broad, multi-skilled team.
Experience and skills required
We seek enthusiastic, driven, and adaptable individuals to join our Asset Performance team. You should be:
* Organised and good at prioritising tasks
* Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with GIS systems is advantageous but not essential, as training can be provided
* A strong team player with excellent communication skills
* A good problem solver with initiative, capable of making data-driven decisions
* Skilled in developing relationships with internal and external customers
* Keen to learn and develop
