Overview
To join the multi-disciplinary CAMH Service in the delivery of mental health care to children and young people and their families, including involvement in the multi-disciplinary assessment pathways. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy, and may supervise other staff. The service operates Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00 with some flexibility to meet service needs.
The Brent CAMH service is based at Monks Park Clinic, Wembley. The team is a large multi-disciplinary group of clinicians providing a range of therapies and supports across the catchment area, with possible travel to other parts of the trust or community settings as required.
Job Responsibilities
* Undertake generic and specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments of children and families referred to the service, interpreting complex data from sources including tests (e.g., WISC-V, ADOS-2, 3Di), self-report measures, rating scales, observations and interviews.
* Formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of emotional and behavioural disorders in children, young people and families, using evidence-based methods across care settings.
* Provide specialist psychological and/or mental health input to clients and families; offer guidance and consultation to other professionals; contribute to formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans.
* Support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other professionals and may supervise staff where required.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and within the governance framework of the service; participate in CAMHS additional areas of practice (e.g., SEND, IPC, Health and Safety, clinical work discussions) and lead on one area.
* Engage in research activities for audit, policy and service development within the service area.
Person Specification
Essential
* Education and Qualifications: Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies; HCPC Registration as Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychologist).
* Experience: Wide experience with diverse client groups across the life course and various care settings; supervised experience of evidence-based treatment in children’s mental health; experience in a multidisciplinary CAMHS team with specialist CAMHS assessment and intervention.
* Knowledge and Skills: Doctoral-level knowledge of clinical psychology and neuropsychology; ability to communicate complex information clearly to clients, families and professionals; ability to manage clinical governance and risk; training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; research methodology knowledge.
Desirable
* Post Doctoral training in CYP-IAPT therapies, ADOS-2/3Di, TF-CBT/EMDR; experience in assessing neurodevelopmental disorders (ASD/ADHD); experience delivering CBT and other therapies to young people with neurodevelopmental differences; teaching, training and supervision experience; experience in planning and delivering group treatments.
