Overview
NHS Fife Older Adult Community Mental Health Services – An opportunity within the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team East Fife for a community health care support worker. We welcome applications from motivated individuals with a background in working with older adults with mental illness, to join the team.
The successful applicant will have knowledge of and experience in issues relating to the health and wellbeing of older adults with mental illness. They will engage with patients to help work on recovery and personal outcomes. The postholder will demonstrate a proactive, positive approach, good communication skills, and the ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a multidisciplinary team to maintain high standards of care. They will hold their own caseload and support the community mental health nurses who direct care delivery.
The role requires travel across a large geographical area in a timely manner and working across East Fife in patients’ homes, including potentially challenging situations. IT skills (Microsoft Office and Morse) are used in this role.
Responsibilities
* Hold your own caseload and support community mental health nurses to deliver programmes of care.
* Engage with patients to support recovery and achievement of personal outcomes.
* Work independently in patients’ homes across East Fife and in a multidisciplinary team to maintain high standards of quality of care.
* Utilise local services and resources to optimise care provision.
Qualifications and experience
* Background in working with older adults with mental illness.
* Knowledge of issues affecting health and wellbeing of older adults with mental illness.
* Proactive, positive approach with strong communication skills.
* Ability to travel and work across a large geographical area.
* Ability to use IT systems (Microsoft Office and Morse).
* Working towards SVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care (induction provided with progression supported).

* Effective in dealing with challenging situations, both independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to engage with diverse workloads and maintain high standards of care.
Additional requirements
* PVG Scheme membership is required prior to appointment.
* Right to work in the United Kingdom or eligibility for sponsorship where applicable.
Working pattern
The service operates within office hours Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00, with potential weekend work in the future.
Travel and mobility
Role requires travel across a large geographical area in a timely manner.
