This is a remote position. 3 month contract role with a Local Authority Job Summary: • The Special Educational Needs Officer (SNO) acts as a senior operational lead within the SEN Service, overseeing the delivery of statutory EHC processes. • The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice, while providing leadership, direction and quality assurance across EHCP casework. • Working remotely, the SNO manages and supports EHCCOs, oversees complex cases, and ensures high-quality, lawful and timely decision-making. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): • Provide operational leadership and oversight of EHCP casework, ensuring statutory compliance and quality standards. • Line manage and supervise EHCCOs, including regular case reviews, guidance and performance support. • Lead on complex, high-risk or escalated cases, providing clear direction and decision-making. • Ensure statutory deadlines are met, including EHC assessments, annual reviews and tribunal timelines. • Quality assure EHCPs and associated documentation to ensure they are lawful, robust and defensible. • Support tribunal processes, mediation and complaints handling. • Make delegated decisions within agreed thresholds and prepare cases for panel or senior review. • Maintain accurate and compliant records across systems (e.g. EHC Hub / Capita). • Work collaboratively with families, education settings and multi-agency partners. • Escalate risks appropriately and uphold governance, policy and procedures. Skills/Experience: • Proven experience as a Special Educational Needs Officer (SNO) or equivalent within a Local Authority. • Essential: Experience managing or supervising a team. • Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice. • Extensive experience overseeing EHCP processes and complex SEND casework. • Experience of tribunal processes, mediation and statutory compliance. • Strong leadership, decision-making and problem-solving skills. • Experience in quality assurance and performance management. • Ability to manage high-pressure workloads and statutory deadlines. • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
