We are looking for an experienced medical receptionist to join our busy but supportive team. The role will involve answering telephone calls, dealing with patientqueries, bookings and prescription requests.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a caring and friendly approachto members of the public and a good understanding of teamwork.
We would welcome applicants looking for full time hours.
Main duties of the job
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and a goodtelephone manner as much of the work involves dealing with patient queries overthe telephone. Good IT skills are essential although full training will be givenon our software packages. An understanding of data protection andconfidentiality is essential in the work that we do but training will be givenon this as part of our induction process. Applicants should be able to work as partof a team and have an understanding of what makes a good team player. Anability to multi-task and work under pressure is also desirable as ourreception area can be very busy at times.

Job responsibilities
Receptionduties - please see attached Job Description in supporting documents
1. Check patients infor surgeries or clinics and direct to the appropriate doctor or nurse
2. Ensure completefamiliarity with appointments system in operation to enable the most effectivebooking of appointments
3. Record requests forhome visits onto the daily visits list including all relevant information, andwhere necessary refer to the duty doctor.
4. Advise patients ofthe system for arranging non-urgent ambulance transport.
5. Givepathology/x-ray results to patients according to agreed procedures
6. Explain practicearrangements to new patients and temporary residents and ensure necessaryprocedures are completed
7. Respond to allqueries and requests for assistance from patients, visitors and other membersof the PHCT
8. Pass messages,whether orally or in writing, accurately and promptly
9. Provide the point of contact for patients with enquiries relating totheir repeat prescriptions and ensure follow-up action is taken if the enquirycannot be resolved immediately
10. Ensure any necessary records are prepared in advance for surgeriesand visits including nightly lists of next days surgery appointments
11. Sort incoming mail and direct to the appropriate member of the team
12. Ensure correspondence, reports, results etc are scanned and/or filedin the correct record
13. Open up premises at the start of each day, set alarm to day functionand make all necessary preparations to receive patients
14. Secure premises at end of day, ensure building is totally secured,internal lights off and alarm activated
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths (or equivalent)
* NVQ Customer Care Level 3 Qualification in reception work or equivalent
Experience
* Previous experience in a GP surgery or NHS setting is essential. Ability to work well under pressure Ability to work unsupervised Ability to work on own initiative and also as an effective team member Excellent communication skills Excellent verbal and written skills
* Knowledge of Clinical systems (EMIS or Systm1). Knowledge of medical reception systems. Familiar with medical terminology. Good administrative skills.
