JOB PURPOSE
The Fyvie Major Conservation project is an ambitious, long-term initiative aimed at protecting and enhancing Fyvie Castle, an 800-year-old site. The project involves conservation of the historic buildings, including the A-listed castle and B-listed Old Home Farm, along with strategic investments to improve visitor experience and sustainability. The project also emphasizes outreach, engagement, skills training, and environmental performance to support the Trust's climate change goals.
The role spans building conservation, project management, natural heritage, research, interpretation, and community relations. The Project Manager will support the Project Director in delivering this complex initiative effectively and to high standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Role Overview:
Supporting the Project Director in planning, scheduling, budgeting, administration, and delivery. Leading smaller work packages and critical project aspects under oversight.
Responsibilities:
* Manage project schedules, milestones, and resources.
* Lead design and delivery of work packages, including specifications, procurement, and contractor management.
* Coordinate team reports, monitor budgets, and report to funders.
* Implement evaluation processes using data and milestone reviews.
* Deputise for the Project Director as needed.
* Assist in project proposals and liaise with finance, legal, and procurement teams.
* Organize meetings, maintain documentation, and track project progress.
* Support stakeholder communication, community engagement, and partnership activities.
* Ensure statutory, contractual, and safety compliance.
Qualifications, Skills, Experience & Knowledge
Qualifications: Degree in a relevant field; PRINCE2 or equivalent certification.
Experience: Project management, historic building conservation, stakeholder management, budgeting, and team leadership. Familiarity with MS Office, project software, legislation, and health & safety. Experience supervising contractors and procurement processes.
Desirable: Knowledge of Scottish history, public sector procurement, public speaking, stakeholder relations, and charity sector experience.
Competencies: Planning, teamwork, communication, analytical thinking, adaptability, creativity.
DIMENSIONS AND SCOPE OF JOB
Focus on Fyvie project, with site attendance and occasional travel within Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Involves working with apprentices, volunteers, and external stakeholders. Responsible for expenditure and financial reporting of delegated funds. Uses MS 365, finance systems, and must hold a valid UK driving license.
