Objectives of the Post
Support Regional Emergency VR Services — Contribute to the 24/7 emergency VR on-call rota, ensuring timely assessment and surgical intervention for urgent referrals from within the trust and surrounding hospitals.
Responsibilities
* Deliver High-Quality Clinical Care — Provide expert management of both elective and emergency vitreoretinal conditions, including performing complex retinal surgery and leading VR outpatient clinics.
* Contribute to Service Development and Innovation — Participate in the ongoing development of the VR service, supporting improvements in clinical pathways, efficiency, and integration with medical retina and urgent care services.
* Promote Education and Training — Supervise and mentor ophthalmology trainees, fellows, and other healthcare professionals, maintaining the trust’s commitment to high-quality postgraduate education.
* Engage in Clinical Governance and Audit — Participate in audit, quality improvement, and risk management activities to ensure safe, evidence-based practice and compliance with national standards.
* Support Research and Academic Activity — Engage with research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Leeds, contributing to the trust’s academic excellence and innovation in ophthalmology.
* Enhance Multidisciplinary and Regional Collaboration — Work closely with colleagues across subspecialties, primary care, and the wider Integrated Care System (ICS) to deliver coordinated and patient-centred retinal care.
