Role
About the role: We are seeking an Additional Learning Support (ALS) Advisor to join our Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.
Responsibilities
* Role Purpose – Ensure students with SEND receive tailored support through individual plans, mentoring, and inclusive classroom practices that promote confidence and independence.
* Support Planning – Create and share individual support plans, review strategies with students, and guide curriculum teams on effective SEND approaches.
* Student & Staff Engagement – Mentor students, provide advice and guidance on additional support services, and build strong professional relationships within the College.
* Quality & Compliance – Conduct classroom observations to monitor implementation, maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEND processes, and contribute to continuous improvement.
* Statutory Duties – Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and health & safety; actively participate in training and development to uphold professional standards.
About You
* Qualifications – Level 2 in Maths and English; relevant Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards.
* Knowledge & Experience – Strong understanding of SEND Code of Practice (2014), safeguarding, equality and diversity; experience supporting young people with SEND in FE settings and liaising with curriculum teams and external agencies.
* Technical Skills – Proficient in Microsoft Office and IT systems; ability to produce professional reports and support plans; understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
* Core Competencies – Excellent communication (verbal and written), organisational and time-management skills; ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure, adapt to change, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
* Values & Attributes – Positive and adaptable attitude; commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries; willingness to work across sites, travel as required, and maintain continuous professional development.
