Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am a disabled man in my forties living in the Pontyclun area with my family. I also have an 11‑month‑old Rottweiler pup in the property. I live with several disabilities, including Microcephaly, Quadriplegia, Cerebral Palsy and epilepsy. I am partially deaf, have limited visual perception and I rely on others for my everyday needs.
I love listening to music and enjoy being read to. I also enjoy trips to Roath Park, Penarth, Barry or occasionally Bristol Zoo.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
We are looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support and assist me at home. The tasks involve personal care, feeding, drinking and domestic tasks such as laundry.
HOURS OF WORK
2 hours on a Monday morning between 7am and 9am. Extra hours may be required to cover other PAs on holiday or when they are sick.
RATES OF PAY
Meets National Living Wage.
TASKS CAN INCLUDE
* All aspects of personal care
* Using a hoist to transfer for personal care (training will be given)
* Continuance management, bathing, and going to bed
* Brushing my hair
* Getting me dressed
* Feeding me
* Physiotherapy, massage, stretching exercises for arms, legs and back; applying moisturiser to aid circulation and stimulation
* Changing my bed
* Laundry, ironing and light cleaning duties such as cleaning my bathroom and bedroom
* Sitting and keeping me company, reading to me, and listening to television or music
* Story‑telling and reading a book
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
* A person willing to undertake personal care tasks discreetly and confidently
* A friendly, sociable person with a good sense of humour
* Someone who is flexible and willing to cover extra hours on occasions
* Someone willing to take me out socially when required
* A dependable and punctual person with a positive approach to disabled people
* Respectful of privacy and confidentiality in my home
* Hoist experience is an advantage but not essential (training provided)
* Willingness to complete further training such as epilepsy awareness and moving & handling training
* Comfortable working in a home with animals, as we have a dog
* Ability to read for storytelling/reading a book
* Annual leave: one week of personal leave each year when the family goes away
ABOUT THE JOB
This will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary initially. The wage will be paid four weekly via Bacs transmission and a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. Appropriate holidays and holiday pay will be provided.
