The successful candidate will bring extensive knowledge of property law and local government practice, with the ability to handle a wide range of property transactions and provide expert advice on complex projects. The role: As a Senior Property Lawyer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality legal services to the Council, working on a broad caseload of property matters. This will include advising on and managing property transactions, regeneration and development projects, and other special projects of strategic importance to the borough. You will work closely with officers, Members, and external stakeholders, ensuring that the Council’s interests are protected and its objectives are achieved. What You’ll Do Advise on and manage a variety of property transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, leases, licences, and development agreements. Provide legal input on special projects, including regeneration and redevelopment initiatives. Draft, negotiate, and review complex property documents and agreements. Support senior officers and Members by providing clear, practical legal advice. Represent the Council in negotiations with external parties. Supervise and support junior members of the Legal Team where required. Contribute to continuous improvement in service delivery, ensuring value for money and efficiency. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of property law, local government law, and best practice. We are looking for someone with: A current practising certificate as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEx). Significant post-qualification experience in property law, ideally within a local authority or public sector context. Strong technical knowledge of property transactions, including leases, acquisitions, disposals, and development agreements. Proven ability to manage a complex and varied caseload with minimal supervision. Excellent drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to provide clear legal advice to non-specialists. A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, Members, and external stakeholders. Desirable: Experience supervising junior staff and contributing to major regeneration or development projects.
