We are looking for Junior Software Developers to join us at Companies House. Companies House is a place of digital innovation where you will develop our software services using JavaScript, Typescript and Java. We are a team who use agile practices, try new technologies and work flexibly to suit every individual. This role is instrumental for us to deliver on our goals as an organisation. You would be a part of a software team, writing code, learning and building your career. We are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work.Our approach to hybrid working provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. We currently expect people to attend their base office a minimum of one day a week but the exact degree of choice you have will depend on your role and your day-to-day work activities and should be agreed through discussions with your line manager. Please note: Companies House cannot offer Visa sponsorship to candidates through this campaign. This role is Cardiff based, with a hybrid of home and office based working to support your development. The first few weeks of your role will be in the Cardiff office 5 days per week to get your training started (this is essential in-person attendance). Job description You will join a team of software developers as a Junior Software Developer. Your main responsibilities will be: You will develop software in one of Companies House approved languages (Java, JavaScript, Typescript) and frameworks (Node.js, Spring / Spring Boot), write unit tests and documentation and learn about code review, independent testing and how to deploy software into a production environment. You will learn and follow the software development process, including coding standards, use of Scrum and automated security checks (SonarQube). You may be involved in early-stage prototyping exercises. You will resolve outstanding issues (including maintenance, bug resolution and business improvements). You will learn about Information Security and become familiar with secure design processes. You will join day to day Scrum stand up sessions and update your colleagues on your tasks. You will work together to build relationships and support your team. You will be joining a passionate team of Developers with varying levels of technical abilities. Our teams also work closely with the architects and the platform team who manage our development pipeline using Concourse CI, SonarQube, AWS, Terraform and Artifactory. We use Docker containers and ECS. This is an exciting time to join us as we consistently evolve our own technical capabilities and ways of working to make the work, we do in Companies House more efficient and easier to use for our customers. Person specification We're looking for the following experience, which will be assessed at sift and at interview. Experience Have a passion for high quality, well-crafted code, and associated tooling. Are keen to learn to develop using Java, JavaScript, Spring / Spring Boot, Node.js, AWS, Docker, REST APIs or already have some experience in any of these technologies. Embrace continuous integration and develop a continuous delivery mindset. Have excellent communication skills and can help explain complicated technical issues to individuals who dont share the same technical experience. Are excellent team players who will help support the wider team. Problem solving and logical thinking.
