Job overview

Employed as a trainee, the aim is to complete the Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) Master’s Degree (MSc Level ) programme in line with the NHS England Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Practice and primary professional regulatory body requirements. Trainees must work towards the core capabilities of an ACP as outlined in the Framework, achieved through workplace-based clinical assessments under a named clinical supervisor and supervision within their service or speciality.

The role supports professional development and wellbeing, preparing for the transition to a qualified ACP following successful academic completion and demonstration of workplace capability and competence. Proficiency is required across the four pillars of advanced practice: Clinical, Leadership and Management, Education, and Research, evidenced by completing the academic programme and maintaining a portfolio of professional practice.

The trainee will mainly work in the Rowan Assessment Unit (RAU), offering clinical input to the medical take and Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) as needed. The ACP is expected to see, assess, and manage patients presenting in these settings, working autonomously within their competence and under supervision, with independence increasing as training advances.

Main duties of the job

The trainee will work primarily within the Rapid Assessment Unit (RAU), and will also provide clinical input across the medical take and the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU). Within this scope, the ACP will be expected to see, assess, and manage patients presenting to these environments, working autonomously within their level of competence and under appropriate supervision while progressing through training.

The ACP will also have an active role in service development and improvement initiatives, working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support pathway redesign, enhance patient flow, and contribute to improved patient outcomes. In addition, the ACP will engage in education, supervision, and research activity, both to support their own professional development and to contribute to the training of colleagues and students
