Electronics Engineer
Location: Nottingham (Hybrid / Flexible)
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 + benefits
Type: Full-time
An exciting engineering hardware consultancy based in Nottingham is looking for a Electronic Design Engineer to join their collaborative team of hardware and software engineers.
They work closely with customers to bring real products to life - from initial specification through to production and deployment. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role, offering exposure to a wide variety of industries, technologies, and complex technical challenges.
The Role
As a Hardware Engineer, you will take ownership of electronic hardware design across the full product lifecycle, while working closely with customers and internal engineering teams.
You will:
* Design, prototype, and simulate electronic hardware to achieve high first-pass success on A-model designs
* Develop and manage complex hardware designs, including schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout (typically 2–8 layers, mixed-signal)
* Work across a wide range of technologies, including MCU/MPU systems, RF, power (DC-DC and AC-DC), analogue sensors, digital logic, FPGAs, and memory devices
* Validate, test, and debug hardware using lab equipment, with occasional travel to external test facilities
* Apply Design for Testability (DFT), Design for Manufacture (DFM), and Design for Production (DFP) throughout the development lifecycle
* Review designs against best practice and produce clear, high-quality technical documentation
* Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to customers
* Communicate effectively with customers, providing updates and responding to technical queries throughout project delivery
What They’re Looking For
* A degree (2:1 or above) in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
* 4+ years’ experience in a hardware-focused electronics design role
* Experience working in a customer-facing or consultancy-based engineering environment
* Strong hands-on experience in hardware design, test, and debugging using lab equipment
* Familiarity with mixed-signal and IoT-style embedded systems
* Solid understanding of EMC, Design for Compliance (DoC), DFT, DFM, and DFP
* Experience using Altium Designer (preferred), or other eCAD tools such as Eagle, KiCad, Fusion, or PADS
* Strong communication skills and the ability to produce clear documentation for non-technical stakeholders
* A proactive, organised approach with the ability to manage workload independently with support from team leads
Why Apply?
* Work on real products from concept to production
* Broad technical exposure across industries and technologies
* Customer-facing role with genuine engineering influence
* Hybrid and flexible working
* Competitive salary and strong benefits package, including private healthcare, pension, and life assurance
If you’re a hands-on Electronics Engineer who enjoys variety, customer interaction, and seeing products through to reality, this is a role well worth exploring.
