Band 7 (Annexe 21) whilst in training. Band 7 once qualified. Band 8a with significant experience in role and completion of competencies.

An exciting opportunity for a qualified or aspiring surgical care practitioner to join the urology team!

The post holder will deliver expert clinical care in urology services, supporting consultants and registrars in theatre and managing patient care across outpatient clinics, during diagnostic procedures, ward rounds, and discharge planning. Operating at an advanced level, they will lead the urology specialty service, manage a patient caseload from diagnosis to discharge or end-of-life, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to ensure high-quality care. A Masters in Surgical Care Practice is required.

The team will support aspiring SCPs through their training to become a qualified SCP.

Main duties of the job

The Urology SCP provides autonomous, expert care for urology patients, leading clinics, initiating assessments and treatment plans, assisting in theatre, and managing daily inpatient care. The role includes leadership in clinical decision-making, urgent care management, MDT participation, and service development to ensure high-quality, patient-centred care.

The role will require cross site cover at James Cook University Hospital, the Friarage Hospital, and Redcar Primary Care Hospital.

Qualifications Band 8

Essential criteria

1. Professional Registration with NMC/HCPC.
2. MSc in Surgical care practice Urology.
3. Non-Medical prescribing (or ability to undertake).
4. Physical assessment skills.

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Experience of working as an SCP within Urology or another speciality and willing to undertake additional training. Band 8
6. Evidence of involvement in change management. Band 8
7. Experience of dealing with acutely unwell patients and competence at diagnosing and delivering treatment Band 8
8. Experience of working in a surgical or acute environment Band 7 and 8

Knowledge

Essential criteria

9. Awareness and understanding of advanced practice Band 7 and 8
10. Understand, encourage and support clinical supervision Band 7 and 8
11. Knowledge of Urological conditions and Anatomy Band 7

Qualifcations Band 7

Essential criteria

12. Professional Registration with NMC/HCPC.
13. Willing to undertake MSc in Surgical care practice Urology.
