High Intensity Therapist
Join Gateshead Talking Therapies, an award‑winning service delivering high quality treatments in primary care to people with common mental health problems. The High Intensity Therapist will provide psychological therapies in primary care using NICE High‑Intensity interventions such as CBT, IPT, EMDR, CAT, and Counselling for Depression.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will deliver interventions and participate in the development and operation of the primary care service. Regular supervision is essential.
Experience
* Demonstrable experience working in mental health services.
* Ability to meet agreed service targets and manage own caseload.
* High standards in written communication; ability to write clear reports and letters to referrers.
* Experience with routine outcome monitoring.
* Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
* Relevant experience in Primary Care treating anxiety and depression.
* Experience working in Primary Care Services.
* Worked in a service where agreed targets were in place, demonstrating clinical outcomes.
Qualifications
* Qualification from a High‑Intensity IAPT Course (Post‑Graduate Diploma or Degree) or equivalent, e.g. recorded/registered doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology, or a post‑graduate qualification in a psychological therapy such as CBT or IPT at at least post‑graduate diploma level.
* Significant experience working as a psychological therapy practitioner and demonstrating the competences required.
Skills & Knowledge
* Full range of skills and competencies required to deliver relevant interventions.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to convey complex clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and professional colleagues.
* Training and experience in risk assessment within scope of practice.
* Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
* Understanding of anxiety and depression and how they present in Primary Care.
* Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
* Knowledge of the impact of work and benefits & employment systems on mental health.
* Understanding of child protection issues and relevant legislation.
* Training in providing supervision for CBT or relevant therapy.
* Accreditation with a professional psychological therapy organisation.
* Completed clinical audits within a service.
Training
* Ability to attend supervision training if not already trained, and other training as the post develops.
* Good record of Continuing Professional Development and willingness to continue this.
