The role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have the chance to influence complex engineering challenges and drive safety and reliability across our operations.
Day-to-day, you’ll take a leading role in ensuring the integrity and performance of critical mechanical handling systems and equipment. You’ll provide technical expertise across design, configuration, and asset management, supporting projects that are vital to national security. From maintaining existing systems to delivering innovative design solutions.
1. Managing and maintaining the design intent of mechanical handling systems and equipment.
2. Reviewing maintenance regimes, specifying replacement components, and supporting permanent modifications.
3. Leading design consultancy projects for new or modified crane and lifting systems.
4. Preparing asset health reports, conducting condition surveys, and supporting fault diagnosis.
5. Applying design and safety processes across the full lifecycle, from concept to commissioning.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days in the office/onsite.
Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Engineer
6. Knowledge of the design process and evidence of designing and substantiating systems and components.
7. Extensive understanding of regulations, legislation, and standards for mechanical handling equipment.
8. Proficiency in producing and interpreting hand calculations and FEA.
9. Ability to read and produce electrical/mechanical engineering drawings.
10. Knowledge of cranes, crane safety, and associated mechanical handling systems.
Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Engineer
11. Degree in Mechanical Engineering (minimum requirement).
12. Professional registration - Desirable.
