Your main role will be to cover the Phlebotomy service at the John Radcliffe with occasional shifts throughout the trust, providing a patient-friendly service as required. Some weekends may be part of your rota.
Phlebotomists are expected to deliver a helpful and professional service to patients and healthcare staff within the Trust.
We seek individuals with the skill and flexibility to support our services on Outpatients, Trust wards, and occasionally the Mobile service.
The individual will be responsible for ensuring blood specimens are taken in a manner that minimizes patient anxiety and that laboratories receive timely, high-quality blood specimens in appropriate tubes for the tests requested.
Requirements include two years of Phlebotomy experience, excellent patient care and compassion, ability to work across sites, and good IT skills.
Having a blood test is often essential for diagnosis or treatment, and the care we provide makes a real difference in this journey.
The role involves safely drawing venous blood from patients on wards, outpatient departments, and the Phlebotomy Bus.
You will work both within a team and independently, using a computer on wheels with the EPR system.
The successful candidate will be appointed as a band [insert band number].

Main Duties of the Job
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our phlebotomy team. Two years of phlebotomy experience is essential.
This role will primarily be based at the JR but may require work at other sites within Oxfordshire, with travel as needed, for which a full driving license and access to a suitable vehicle are required.
Skills and Responsibilities
* Safely take venous bloods from patients on wards and outpatient departments.
* Verify patient identity, follow any special instructions (e.g., fasting), and obtain patient consent.
* Collect high-quality venous blood using aseptic techniques, minimizing pain and discomfort.
* Ensure samples reach labs safely.
* Work effectively both within a team and independently.
* Operate a computer on wheels using the EPR system.
* Complete phlebotomy tasks efficiently.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
* Follow safe working practices according to Trust policies.
* Participate in infection control strategies.
* Make informed judgments regarding the viability of taking blood.
