The Field Sales Executive Role
Suttons Performance Packaging (part of Macfarlane’s Design & Manufacturing division) creates bespoke packaging solutions from our site in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. As the Field Sales Executive, you will be responsible for growing the sales of in‑house manufactured, bespoke packaging solutions across the defined territory.
This is a direct sales/new‑business acquisition role. You will spend much of your time out in the field attending meetings to identify, onboard, and develop new customer accounts, and further develop some existing accounts within verticals including Aerospace, Defence, Electronics, and Medical Equipment. You will also network and collaborate with group colleagues to encourage sales leads and act on referrals from other Macfarlane sites.
At the core of the role, you will identify, target, and convert new prospects into profitable customers. Typical sales cycles range from 3 weeks to 6 months, requiring you to build and maintain a robust sales pipeline.
Field Sales Executive Core Duties
* Create growth: Generate territory growth in line with commercial targets.
* Enquiry conversion: Support internal teams in converting live opportunities into orders and build ongoing customer relationships through external meetings.
* Consultative/Technical Sales: Use a consultative approach to analyse and solve customer problems, presenting tailored solutions and commercially viable proposals.
* Customer Relationships: Build trusted advisor relationships with key stakeholders and decision‑makers.
What You Will Bring To The Role
We’re looking for loyal, engaged, self‑motivated individuals, with a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar territory/field‑based sales role.
* Strong presentation, customer‑facing, and influencing skills.
* Background in selling technical solutions to engineers and buyers.
* Excellent commercial acumen and problem‑solving abilities.
* Full valid UK driving license.
* Residence within a comfortable commuting distance of our manufacturing site in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.
* Highly self‑motivated with resilience and a drive to succeed.
* Experience in planning and executing sales campaigns, networking, and closing deals.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
