Clerk of Works (Preventative Highways Maintenance)

We are seeking two dedicated Clerk of Works to join our team, focusing on preventative highways maintenance. These roles are essential for supporting the delivery of our preventative highway maintenance programmes. One position is newly created due to increased capital funding, and the other is a replacement role due to retirement.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Carry out site-based inspections, assessments, and measurements.
* Identify and validate sites suitable for surface dressing and other preventative treatments.
* Mark out, measure, and prepare patching and pre-works requirements.
* Support programme planning activities.
* Liaise with contractors to ensure that all specifications and standards are met.
* Provide quality checks, contract compliance monitoring, and reporting.
* Occasionally participate in winter service operations (no prior experience required).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Experience with preventative maintenance treatments such as surface dressing, micro-asphalt, or slurry surfacing.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
* Strong understanding of specification adherence and contractor oversight.
* High level of physical fitness is required as the role involves walking up to 10 km per day, covering multiple miles of highway on foot, and standing for extended periods.
* Full driving licence is essential.
Desirable Skills:
* Level 3 Civil Engineering qualification or substantial highways maintenance background.
* Local authority experience, which is advantageous when engaging with councillors/elected members.
* Familiarity with GIS.
* Standard IT competence (Office suite).
