We are seeking highly motivated and committed Trust Grade Doctors (ST3 Equivalent) in Trauma & Orthopaedics to join our team at the Royal London Hospital, a major trauma centre with a national and international reputation for excellence.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to gain extensive experience in the management of complex trauma and elective orthopaedic conditions within a busy tertiary referral centre.

Main duties of the job

Provide high-quality care in Trauma & Orthopaedics across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings

Participate in daily trauma meetings, ward rounds, fracture clinics, and theatre lists

Assess and manage acute trauma patients, including polytrauma, under consultant supervision

Assist in operative procedures and develop surgical skills appropriate to ST3 level

Participate in the on-call rota for Trauma & Orthopaedics

Contribute to teaching of junior doctors and medical students

Engage in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement projects

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient trauma and orthopaedic surgical service.

To provide evidence-based care for all inpatients and outpatients and to work flexibly to the prescribed rota to support the service, including inpatient and outpatient duties.
To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the NHS Plan, Your Guide to the NHS, and purchaser agreements.
To participate fully in the management of the Department and to liaise closely with the Lead Clinicians for Orthopaedics and Trauma, General Manager and Clinical Director.
The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
The duties outlined are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with needs of the service requiring the post holder to be cooperative and flexible.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. MBBS or equivalent
2. Full GMC registration with a License to Practice
3. MRCS

Desirable criteria

4. ATLS
5. BSS
6. CCrisp

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Previous Orthopaedic experience in both elective and trauma services in the NHS.

Desirable criteria

8. Previous registrar level experience in trauma and orthopaedics

Management Skills

Essential criteria

9. Evidence of effective leadership e.g. quality improvement projects, service improvement

Desirable criteria

10. Management training course
11. Knowledge of NHS finances / budgets

Teaching & Training

Essential criteria

12. Enthusiasm, and ability to teach and train
13. Effective teaching and presentation skills

Desirable criteria

14. Formal teaching qualification r.g PgCert / Train the Trainers

Research

Essential criteria

15. Engagement in research
16. Peer Reviewed Publication

Desirable criteria

17. Higher degree (MSc, MD, PhD)
