Job Overview
Work with a globally focused Renewable Energy team dedicated to leading the shift toward sustainable and low‑carbon solutions. As a Civil Engineering Apprentice you will be based in the Edinburgh office from August 26 and work on renewable projects across the UK and internationally.
Projects
The apprentice will support civil/structural work on a range of technologies including wind (on‑shore & offshore), hydroelectric (run‑of‑river & pumped storage), grid connection works, hydrogen production and storage, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Typical Project Examples
* Lancaster University Solar Farm – design, tendering, and construction supervision.
* Red John Pumped Storage Hydro – environmental surveys, design support, and planning consent.
Responsibilities
* Support delivery of consultancy services on renewable energy engineering projects.
* Assist in feasibility level studies and detailed design information.
* Prepare technical reports for developers and supply chain.
* Participate in site visits to construction sites.
* Attend university on average one day per week for four years to obtain a BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering.
Qualifications
* Enrolled in a BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering course at Heriot Watt University or Edinburgh Napier University (SCQF Level 10).
* Minimum of 5 National 5s at grade C or above including Mathematics & English.
* Minimum of four SQA Highers at Grade BBBB including Maths to be achieved by the end of S6.
* Foundation Apprenticeships or equivalent vocational qualifications considered.
* Interest in renewable energy civil engineering, hard‑working, enthusiastic, creative, practical, adaptable, self‑motivated, organized.
* Proficient in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Microsoft Office skills; good numerical skills.
* Ability to work independently and in a team without losing initiative.
* Full driving licence or willingness to travel and drive kit when required.
