We're looking for a talented, driven Senior Civil Engineer (ideally with marine experience) to join our client's team. This is an excellent opportunity to work across a broad range of projects and develop your career through involvement in complex, high-value engineering challenges.
The role is based in Immingham, 5 days per week initially, moving to 4 days on site / 1 day from home split once you're settled.
This is a contract position running through to the end of 2027, outside IR35. It's a 40-hour week, Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership of Design Review Processes
o Lead and oversee the review of civil and marine engineering design drawings to ensure
technical accuracy, constructability, and full compliance with UK standards and project
specifications.
o Provide expert guidance on resolving complex design issues and ensuring optimal
engineering outcomes.
- Design Validation, Assurance, and Sign-Off
o Manage the design validation process, ensuring rigorous technical checks are completed
and documented.
o Approve or recommend approval of design deliverables, ensuring alignment with client
requirements, industry best practices, and regulatory frameworks.
- Technical Lead for Marine and Port Engineering
o Serve as the technical authority for marine structures, coastal works, and port infrastructure.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination
o Lead coordination with designers, contractors, consultants, regulatory bodies, and port
authorities.
o Represent the engineering team in high-level design workshops, progress meetings, and
technical negotiations.
- Construction-Phase Engineering Support
o Provide senior-level engineering oversight during construction, including reviewing
contractor proposals, responding to RFIs, and leading technical resolution of on-site issues.
o Conduct site visits to verify compliance with design intent and quality standards.
- Project Management and Planning
o Contribute to the planning, programming, and monitoring of engineering activities to
ensure project milestones are achieved.
o Support risk identification, mitigation strategies, and decision-making processes for
complex marine infrastructure works.
- Quality, Compliance, and Governance
o Ensure engineering outputs meet UK maritime and coastal standards, relevant Eurocodes,
and company quality procedures.
o Lead internal audits, technical assurance processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Documentation and Technical Reporting
o Produce and review high-quality technical reports, design commentaries, specifications, and
approval documentation.
o Ensure clear, consistent reporting to senior management and clients.
- Mentorship and Team Development
o Support and mentor junior and intermediate engineers, fostering a collaborative and highperformance
team environment.
o Contribute to training initiatives and knowledge-sharing across the organisation.
- Digital and Software Capability
o Utilise advanced digital tools and engineering software (e.g., MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, Civil
3D, modelling tools) to support design and analysis.
o Promote best practices in digital workflows and data management.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Leadership
o Embed HSE principles into all engineering activities and promote a positive safety culture
across design and construction teams.
o Ensure environmental impacts are considered and mitigated throughout the project
lifecycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or
a related discipline.
- Chartered Member (i.e. ICE, IMECHE, IET)
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Civil engineering consultancy/construction or a related role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
