About the Role
My client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing design team based in Wolverhampton.
This is a predominantly office-based role (5 days per week) where you will be responsible for developing and delivering detailed mechanical designs that support safe, compliant, and high-quality installations across a range of construction projects.
Working as part of an established design team, you will play a key role in the coordination and delivery of mechanical building services design from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
Key Responsibilities
1. Designing in accordance with fire strategy reports, local building regulations and planning authority requirements
2. Attending and contributing to design team meetings
3. Carrying out site surveys of existing installations where required
4. Producing heating and cooling load calculations (thermal modelling) and ventilation calculations using industry software
5. Sizing and selection of AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHPs, boilers, plate heat exchangers and associated plant
6. Producing above-ground drainage calculations and system sizing
7. Sizing and selection of domestic hot and cold-water equipment (heaters, storage tanks etc.)
8. Producing pipework and ductwork sizing calculations using recognised industry software or spreadsheets
9. Sizing and selection of firefighting sprinkler and pumping systems (preferred but not essential)
10. Producing stage reports and technical presentations
11. Preparing Designer’s Risk Assessments and Mitigation Reports
12. Producing mechanical layouts and schematics for construction
13. Ensuring designs meet project programmes and delivery deadlines
14. Producing detailed design and survey reports
Requirements
15. Extensive experience within Mechanical Building Services design in the construction sector
16. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
17. Strong knowledge of CIBSE guidance and relevant UK / European standards (BS, EN, IEC etc.)
18. Experience using design software such as Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES or TAS
19. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced project environment
20. Strong communication and coordination skills
