Senior Female and Functional Urology Fellow
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to announce the development of this new role. The post provides sub-specialist training in female, functional, neuro-urology, and reconstruction. It is not a recognised UK training post but is suitable for those seeking out-of-programme experience or a fellowship prior to applying for a sub-specialist consultant post.
Introduction to the Division/Specialty
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a urology department delivering state-of-the-art services to a population of nearly 600,000. The department manages approximately 20,000 outpatients and performs 6,500 elective and 2,800 non-elective procedures annually. It is designated as a cancer team within the regional Cancer Network, supporting a large uro-oncology service. The department also provides continence, neuro-urology, and bladder reconstruction services to the regional spinal injuries unit.
Advanced endourology and laparoscopic surgeries are established for benign and malignant upper urinary tract conditions. The stone service is comprehensive, utilizing an on-site lithotripter. Robotic surgery with DaVinci Robots is well established at both Pinderfields and Dewsbury sites. Outpatient, day case, and investigative sessions are conducted across all hospital sites, with major surgeries primarily at Pinderfields Hospital.
The department has established a urology network with Barnsley General Hospital, providing care for a combined population of nearly one million. Urological investigations are available across four sites, with inpatient care at a dedicated 26-bed urology ward at Pinderfields. The team includes a multidisciplinary group with excellent support from anaesthetics, critical care, neurology, and other specialties. Specialist nursing support is also integral to the department's service delivery.
