Role Description
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Home Underwriter to join our team. You’ll define risk appetite, policy wordings, and endorsements, while monitoring trends in customer behaviour, claims, legislation, and regulation.
The role involves product reviews, acting as a subject matter expert on insured risk and cover, and representing the organisation externally. You’ll also liaise with group functions on risk appetite, technical referrals, case underwriting, and portfolio exposure monitoring.
This is a hybrid role, with flexibility to be based in our Birmingham, Bournemouth, or London offices.
Salary Information
Pay: Circa £38,000
Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
About You
As our Home Underwriter, you will:
* Assist with monitoring portfolio performance and helping review risk strategies.
* Support post‑event reviews and learning from major claims to improve underwriting practices.
* Help prepare and process technical referrals, escalating complex cases to senior underwriters.
* Contribute to product management activities, assisting with updates, and supporting the design of new products.
* Gather data and helping assess product value and customer outcomes.
* Assist with updates to wordings and endorsements to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Support exception agreement processes under guidance from senior colleagues.
* Help track key risk indicators (KRIs) and supporting fraud control checks.
* Contribute to horizon scanning and emerging trend analysis to keep products competitive.
* Assist with reviews of risk model outputs to inform underwriting decisions.
Essential skills
* Prior exposure to underwriting.
* Clear written and verbal communication.
* Comfortable with working with data and spotting trends.
* Ability to identify issues, manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
* Analytical capability and technical competence.
* Ability to build relationships with partners.
Desirable skills
* Technical underwriting knowledge within Home.
