Engineering Manager – South West | Leading Residential Developer
My client is looking for an Engineering Manager to join their growing team. They are excited to be expanding their Technical team and are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to play a key role in future developments across the South West.
Reporting directly to the Technical Director, this position will see you lead all engineering elements of new projects, from early feasibility to detailed design, ensuring practical, cost‑effective, and high‑quality solutions are delivered.
About the Role
You’ll oversee the engineering input on new land opportunities, coordinating with both internal teams and external consultants to shape technically sound and commercially viable schemes.
* Assess potential development sites and produce detailed technical reports following site visits.
* Work closely with Land, Planning, Commercial, Build, and Sales teams to provide robust, value‑driven engineering solutions.
* Prepare detailed feasibility assessments covering infrastructure, drainage, ground conditions, retaining structures, and cut/fill strategies to support land bids and acquisition packs.
* Manage and review the work of external consultants from concept to construction stages.
* Review design information for efficiency, buildability, and cost optimisation, particularly in roads, drainage, and utilities.
* Ensure all utility applications, diversions, and supply requirements are identified and managed ahead of project start.
* Support pre‑start planning, tender meetings, and technical reviews to help maintain project timelines.
* Build effective relationships with site teams to ensure projects are delivered as designed and lessons learned are captured for future improvements.
About You
They are looking for a technically strong and solutions‑focused professional who brings both leadership and hands‑on capability.
* A qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent).
* Strong knowledge of geotechnical reports, drainage design, highway layouts, and foundation engineering.
* A solid understanding of relevant regulations and statutory processes (e.g., sewer requisitions, utilities).
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* A proactive and collaborative approach, capable of influencing and coordinating teams and consultants.
* Competency with core IT systems (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* A full UK driving licence.
