General Manager – Anaerobic Digestion
Location - North East Scotland
Competitive Executive Package of up to £85,000 Basic Salary + Benefits
We are working with a well-established renewable energy business operating multiple anaerobic digestion plants, who are now seeking to appoint an experienced and commercially driven general manager.
This is a high-impact senior leadership role offering the opportunity to take full operational control of multiple strategically important AD facilities during a key period of operational growth and performance improvement. Reporting directly to the business owners, the successful candidate will play a central role in shaping operational strategy, driving plant efficiency, increasing gas output, reducing operational costs, and improving the overall profitability of the business.
The position requires a hands-on operational leader with a strong technical understanding of anaerobic digestion, biological optimisation, maintenance management, and process efficiency. This is not a corporate oversight role — the business is looking for someone capable of being fully immersed in plant operations, making decisive operational improvements, leading site teams, and delivering measurable performance gains across both plants.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the full day-to-day operation of multiple anaerobic digestion plants
* Drive improvements in gas production, efficiency, uptime, and plant reliability
* Manage feedstock strategy, biological performance, and operational optimisation
* Oversee maintenance planning, contractors, and engineering coordination
* Lead and develop operational teams across multiple sites
* Identify and implement cost-saving and process improvement initiatives
* Monitor plant KPIs, performance trends, and operational reporting
* Ensure full HSE, environmental, and regulatory compliance
* Work closely with the business owners on operational and commercial strategy
Candidate Requirements
* Significant experience within anaerobic digestion.
* Strong technical understanding of AD
* Proven track record of improving operational performance and efficiency
* Experience leading plant operations, maintenance activities, and site teams
* Commercially aware with strong operational decision-making ability
* Experience with SCADA/PLC systems and plant monitoring software
* Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
* Full UK driving licence
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious senior operations professional to join a growing renewable energy business where they can make a direct and visible impact on operational performance and long-term business success.
