Job Summary
We are seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join our kitchen team @ The Mortimer Arms Hotel. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the restaurant and hospitality industry, with a focus on food preparation and production. As a Sous Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and presentation. This position requires excellent leadership skills and the ability to supervise kitchen staff effectively. With a working week of 45 hours.
Duties
Assist the Head Chef in planning and directing food preparation and production activities.
Supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance and training to ensure adherence to recipes and presentation standards.
Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene throughout all kitchen operations, following Food Agency Guidelines & Compliance.
Collaborate with the culinary team to create innovative menus that reflect seasonal ingredients and customer preferences.
Oversee inventory management, including ordering supplies and minimising waste.
Ensure that all dishes are prepared in a timely manner while maintaining quality control.
Assist in the development of new recipes and menu items, contributing creative ideas to enhance the dining experience.
Monitor kitchen equipment for proper functioning and report any maintenance issues promptly.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar role within the restaurant or hospitality industry.
Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety regulations, and kitchen management practices.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team effectively.
Proficient in food preparation methods, including cooking techniques, seasoning, and presentation styles.
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail to ensure consistency in food quality.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
