Wee Mack's Nursery seeks experienced and enthusiastic Lead Early Years Professionals to join our growing nursery in the Leith area of Edinburgh and ensure high-quality care and early learning experiences are delivered.

The Lead Professional is responsible for managing their team, supporting children’s development, and creating a safe, nurturing environment where both children, and colleagues, can thrive.

Key Responsibilities are as follows:

Child Development & Curriculum

1. Plan and deliver stimulating learning experiences following the appropriate guidance.
2. Monitor, assess, and record children’s progress through observations and learning journals.
3. Identify and support children with additional needs in partnership with parents and external agencies.

Leadership & Team Management

4. Lead and support a team of Early Years Practitioners and Support staff.
5. Conduct regular 1:1s, mentoring, and role modelling of excellent practice.
6. Delegate tasks effectively and ensure routines run smoothly.
7. Support new staff and students.

Parent & Carer Partnership

8. Build strong, trusting relationships with families.
9. Provide daily feedback and regular progress updates.
10. Involve parents in their child’s learning through stay-and-play sessions, newsletters, and parent evenings.

Health & Safety / Safeguarding

11. Ensure the environment is safe, clean, and compliant with Care Inspectorate and HSE standards.
12. Conduct risk assessments and safety checks.
13. Follow all safeguarding and child protection procedures and act as a designated person when required.

Administration & Compliance

14. Maintain accurate records, including medication forms, accident reports, and planning documentation.
15. Support audits and inspections.
16. Uphold confidentiality and data protection at all times.

You must have extensive experience of working with children and be qualified to at least Level 3 (SCQF level 7). You should also be working (or willing to work) towards a further professional qualification e.g PDA 8/9 or BA Childhood Practice; and be eligible for SSSC registration.

This post is regulated work with children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. Successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
