The General Surgical service of Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is seeking three full-time consultant surgeons for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract while substantive recruitment continues. These replacement posts will join a team of ten general surgeons at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn site. Clinical work will be delivered primarily at the QEH, with more complex surgery at the NNUH site. The applicant will be expected to participate in 1 in 9 emergency cover for general surgery at QEH and to support the on‑call service at the NNUH site.
Responsibilities
* Deliver general and gastrointestinal surgery across Norfolk, including day case, high‑volume low‑complexity (HVLC) and complex cases.
* Provide 1 in 9 emergency cover for general surgery at QEH and support the on‑call service at NNUH.
* Actively participate in the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme, including clinical audit, quality improvement, guideline development, professional development, appraisal and risk management.
* Serve on the Consultant Staff Committee.
* Develop and implement service improvements such as establishing a hot gallbladder service at QEH.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Broad training in general and laparoscopic surgery with experience in day case and HVLC procedures.
* Comfortable with the nuances of general surgical practice and open to developing subspecialist interests.
* Applicants with an ambition for service design or quality improvement work will be particularly welcome.
