Summary
Location: Peffermill Industrial Estate. Salary: £26,337 – £28,835 (pro‑rated for part‑time). Hours: 20 per week, 52 weeks. The Telecare service provides responsive and preventative support to over 8,000 people living across the city in their own homes, facilitated by community alarms and other technologies.
Responsibilities
* Assist in providing emergency and support services to Edinburgh’s Telecare service users, offering advice and information to users, their next of kin and liaising with other council departments and outside agencies.
* Visit users in their own homes, providing assistance and care to vulnerable adults.
* Answer calls from service users via the computerised calls handling facility, assess the nature of an emergency call, prioritise the level of urgency and respond accordingly.
* Drive to users’ homes, determine practical and emotional support required and liaise with emergency and other statutory/non‑statutory agencies when necessary.
* Provide emergency assistance in the form of first aid, resuscitation, personal care and safer moving and handling using specialist equipment.
* Develop knowledge of assistive‑technology‑enabled care equipment and devices, supporting service users by demonstrating their use and assisting with installation and repairs.
* Maintain accurate records and statistics and manage confidential records appropriately.
* Work to a 24/7 rota, including 12‑hour day and night shifts. Unsocial/shift allowance payments of up to £7,400 per annum.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Valid UK driver’s licence.
* Current registration with the PVG Scheme or completion of a PVG Scheme update check (a 3‑month continuous period abroad within the last 5 years requires an overseas criminal record check).
* Ability to work flexible and resiliently, managing a varied role in a close‑knit team.
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
