Overview
A proactive Technical Manager to support the technical team in maintaining design and construction standards across the association. Primary responsibilities include conducting audits of contracting and surveyor members, managing risk assessments for below-ground structures, and ensuring compliance with British Standards and PCA codes of practice.
Responsibilities
* Audits (80% of time): Undertake member technical audits including pre-audit documentation review, site visits, and follow-up actions
* Audits (80% of time): Conduct Basement Insurance Guarantee (BIG) and Structural Waterproof Insurance Guarantee (SWIG) audits
* Audits (80% of time): Report and recommend post-audit actions, liaising with members and membership team
* Audits (80% of time): Undertake inspections of existing buildings and construction site visits to confirm design compliance
* Audits (80% of time): Review and update audit template paperwork
* Training (10% of time): Develop and update training and certification offerings with support from the training team and members
* Other Duties (10% of time): Support development and launch of projects and activities
* Other Duties (10% of time): Exercise autonomous responsibility and influence over stakeholders and staff to drive change
* Other Duties (10% of time): Attend and contribute to relevant sector meetings
* Other Duties (10% of time): Keep skills up to date
* Other Duties (10% of time): Attend and contribute to Senior Management Team meetings as requested
Requirements
Education: Recognised Engineering qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (ESSENTIAL)
Experience: Technical background serving specialist activities in the built environment; Delivering projects from conception to completion; Managing competing priorities
Knowledge: Project lifecycle and continuous improvement; Best practice processes and procedures; Understanding of insurance risk
Skills: Interpersonal and influencing abilities; Ability to communicate technically at all levels; Time management: working to deadlines and prioritising workload; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Interpret, analyse and present information clearly and concisely; Attention to detail; Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; Confident working with numbers
Other: Willingness to travel frequently to local and national sites for contractor audits and site visits; Team player; Excellent at building relationships at all levels
Desirable qualifications
* CSSW qualification or equivalent experience
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CABE)
* Experience working within a not-for-profit organisation
* Experience working within an insurance company or in a building control role
* Desire to develop own skills
