PEER SUPPORT WORKER – Specialist perinatal Service and Maternal Mental Health Service

The role of Peer Support Worker has been developed specifically for people with lived experience of mental health services. Through sharing wisdom from their own experience, the peer support worker will inspire hope in others and support women and birthing people who have experienced loss or trauma within their maternity journey.
This is an exciting opportunity to use your own experience to help support others during their journey. The support provided by our PSW’s is unique and invaluable. Working in a multi‑disciplinary team across Cheshire and Merseyside, you will support individuals during the perinatal period (pregnancy to 24 months postnatal) and be a recovery champion and ambassador of positive mental well‑being.

Responsibilities
* Act as a positive role model for service users and staff, demonstrating Trust values.
* Establish supportive and respectful relationships with people using mental health services.
* Help individuals identify and set achievable recovery goals and objectives, using recovery tools, techniques and your own experience.
* Share and promote coping, self‑help and self‑management techniques within the peer relationship.
* Accompany service users to appointments or meetings of their choice and perform a range of practical tasks aligned to recovery goals.
* Facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable service users to participate in community activities.
* Provide support while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Assist service users to identify and overcome fears and challenges within their recovery within a relationship of empathy and trust.
* Liaise with carers, other health professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies to meet recovery needs.
* Work in collaboration with key stakeholders and colleagues involved in the delivery of care.
* Follow Trust clinical supervision guidelines and provide appropriate supervision to others when required.
* Act within the limits of your competence and seek advice and guidance when needed.
* Contribute to a positive and safe working culture.
* Undertake administrative duties such as data inputting, filing, computer work, faxing, copying and updating patient records on RIO.
* Ensure patient health records are maintained in accordance with national and organisational policies.
* Participate in regular line management and clinical supervision, including recovery‑focused group supervision, and identify personal developmental needs.
* Attend service user forums to ensure the voice of the service user is heard.
* Participate in quality assurance measures, promote uptake of friends and family tests and other feedback mechanisms to review service effectiveness.
* Contribute to service development by attending ward, service and hospital level meetings to promote the service user perspective.
* Attend all statutory and mandatory training allocated and attend RIO training.
* Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
* Complete any other reasonable request.
* Travel as required for the role.
Qualifications & Experience
• Lived experience within the maternity journey is required.
• Experience in recovery, peer support or mental health services is beneficial.
