Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) Clinical Navigator
Full time, 37.5 hours per week
12‑month secondment opportunity
Band 7 – £49,387–£56,515 per annum (NHS Agenda for Change Section 2)
Location: Gillingham, Medway (preferred base) – applications for Crawley base will be considered; the role requires on‑site shifts only; agile working is not available.
Main Duties
The Clinical Navigator is a first‑line manager and focal point for staff. Responsibilities include:
* Providing advice, guidance, motivation, direction and leadership to team members
* Managing rotas, sickness and welfare issues
* Acting as a Clinical Advisor – overseeing call audit, clinical decision support usage, performance management and clinical quality and governance for the team
* Providing clinical supervision for the NHS Pathways or PaCCS call triage system
* Ensuring completion of the full training, mentoring and, if applicable, the Call Handler Support Module for PaCCS
* Maintaining excellent communication skills and influencing and supporting direct line reports within the IUC team
Working Hours and Shifts
* 24/7 role requiring a range of shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays
* Shift patterns include weekdays, late afternoons into evenings, Saturdays and Sundays
* Unsocial hours are payable in addition to salary, dependent on working pattern
Qualifications and Requirements
* Registered Adult Nurse or Paramedic with the necessary license and qualifications (or willing to complete required training for NHS Pathways or PaCCS)
* Completed training and mentoring package for the relevant call triage system
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Discretionary DBS check – basic, standard or enhanced as specified in the offer
* COVID‑19 vaccination (or evidence of medical exemption) as a condition of deployment for patient‑facing roles
