Westland Horticulture is looking for a proactive, hands-on Health & Safety Officer to play a key role in maintaining and developing a strong safety culture at our Ellesmere Port manufacturing site.
This is a highly visible, site-based role where you’ll work alongside the Senior Management Team to ensure safe working practices, legal compliance, and continuous improvement across the factory. If you enjoy being on the factory floor, influencing behaviours, and driving real safety improvements - this is a fantastic opportunity to make an impact.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for supporting, developing, and embedding Health & Safety standards across the site, ensuring policies, procedures, and working practices are not only compliant, but actively lived day-to-day.
Key aspects of the role include:
* Leading site Health & Safety compliance in line with UK legislation
* Reviewing and improving H&S policies, procedures, and risk controls
* Maintaining a live Risk Register and driving action plans
* Carrying out regular site inspections, audits, and GMP checks
* Investigating accidents and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
* Delivering H&S inductions for new starters
* Supporting training plans and maintaining site training matrices
* Managing COSHH controls and safe handling of hazardous substances
* Coordinating fire safety processes, drills, and emergency procedures
* Supporting ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001) and audit readiness
* Promoting a strong “clean as we go” and safety-first culture
* Liaising with regulatory bodies and supporting the Group H&S Manager
This role is heavily factory-floor focused and requires strong engagement with production teams, supervisors, and managers. We’re seeking someone with a practical, people-focused approach to safety who can build strong working relationships across the site.
You’ll ideally have:
* 2–3 years’ experience in a Health & Safety or Junior Safety Officer role
* Experience within a manufacturing or factory environment
* Understanding of implementing H&S policies in line with legislation
* IOSH qualification (essential)
* NEBOSH (desirable)
* Strong communication and influencing skills
* Good IT skills (MS Office)
* A hands-on style and visibility on the shop floor
* Full UK driving licence (occasional UK travel may be required)
Why Join Westland?
You’ll join a supportive Senior Management Team, working closely with the General Manager and Group H&S function, with plenty of opportunities for professional development and external training.
