Newport Surgery has an opportunity for a medical secretary to join their team for 30+ hours per week. Days can be flexible but must include a Monday and Tuesday.
With the increasing use of technology in general practice, medical secretaries are playing an increasingly important role in managing patient information and ensuring that healthcare providers have access to the data they need to deliver high-quality care.
Main duties of the job
* Provide administrative support to doctors and other healthcare professionals
* Prepare and manage correspondence, including letters, emails, and reports
* Maintain and update patient records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy
* Handle telephone and face-to-face enquiries from patients, healthcare professionals, and external agencies
* Process referrals, tasks and incoming emails from patients and third-party providers
* Assist in the preparation of medical documents
* Ensure the practices policies and procedures are adhered to, particularly in relation to patient confidentiality and data protection
* Coordinate with other staff members to ensure a seamless patient experience
Qualifications
* Previous experience as a medical secretary or administrator (preferably within the NHS or a clinical setting)
Experience
* Proficient in medical audio-typing and terminology
* Able to maintain confidentiality of patient information
* Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general IT literacy
* Excellent word processing with experience of digital/audio typing
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal, able to deal with sensitive information and diverse patient needs.
* Able to work under pressure/prioritising workload
* Experience using the Electronic Referral System (e-RS)
* Proven ability to manage a busy workload, meet tight deadlines, and work independently
* A thorough understanding of GDPR and the importance of patient confidentiality
* Strong work ethic to commit to deadlines and completion
* Good general education (GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths)
