Infrastructure Engineer – NCC – Innovating for Industry
Bristol based with hybrid working (3–4 days per week in office).
Salary: £45,084 to £63,751 per annum, experience‑dependent, plus 12.5% employer pension, private medical insurance and additional benefits.

Summary
The NCC is a not‑for‑profit organisation supporting manufacturing innovation across 16 sectors in the UK. We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineering specialist to join our IT department, providing guidance and hands‑on support around our IT infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Primarily working on IT projects & programmes across the IT Defence Portfolio, you will take responsibility for the installation and/or decommissioning of products and services, and support delivery across both hybrid and on‑premises environments. Your day‑to‑day activities will include:
* Build and configure on‑premises infrastructure.
* Deploy and integrate cloud‑based services (e.g. IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, virtual machines, storage, networking, identity).
* Ensure systems are built in line with approved high‑level and low‑level designs.
* Collaborate with solution architects, programme and project managers, and cyber security engineers; support risk management with associated stakeholders.
* Plan, estimate and schedule installation and decommissioning work.
* Maintain the highest levels of IT security to protect the integrity of all NCC data.
* Use diagnostic tools, technical manuals, test scripts and system documentation to identify, diagnose and report on system errors.
* Design and produce test scripts & cases, assisting test planning.
* Provide specialist advice, guidance and assistance to colleagues on installation planning and execution.
* Maintain a flexible approach to project work, including working from any NCC location and providing out‑of‑hours support as required.
Qualifications
* Willingness and eligibility to undertake government security clearances.
* Proven experience in a prior Infrastructure Engineer role or similar.
* Familiarity with implementing security best practices across Microsoft environments.
* Knowledge of network security principles, including firewalls, segmentation and secure remote access.
* Experience with identity and access management (IAM) – MFA, RBAC, conditional access policies.
* Experience aligning infrastructure builds with cyber security standards such as NCSC guidance, CIS benchmarks or Microsoft Security Baselines.
* Awareness of regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus).
* Understanding of data classification, encryption standards and secure storage/access principles.
* Experience supporting and configuring enterprise server platforms.
* Familiarity with virtualization technologies used in production environments.
* Exposure to public cloud platforms and integration with on‑premises systems.
* General knowledge of core networking components and protocols.
* Experience with systems management and configuration processes.
* Ability to script and automate infrastructure tasks, including infrastructure‑as‑code concepts.
* Awareness of telephony systems (beneficial).
