We're currently seeking Senior Java Developers to work on a flagship welfare reform programme, helping deliver high impact digital public services used by millions across the UK.
Role : Senior Java Developer(s)
Contract Length : 12 months
Location : Manchester / Leeds
What You'll Do
Design, build, and improve government digital products, platforms, and transactions
Work within an Agile, multidisciplinary team (developers, designers, analysts)
Contribute to large-scale, high-traffic, microservice-based systems
Pair program, support continuous delivery, and help with second-line and occasional out-of-hours support
Communicate technical ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Promote best practices and contribute to the wider development community
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong recent experience with Java 21 or later
Excellent grasp of TDD and BDD
Experience with large microservice architectures
Agile delivery experience
API development (internal and external)
Automated testing for CI/CD environments
Comfortable working on Linux or macOS
Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly
Understanding of responsive web design
Desirable Skills
Jackson, JAX-RS, Mockito
Messaging platforms (Kafka or ActiveMQ)
MongoDB or other document databases
Scaling high-traffic systems and large data sets
