Introduction We are seeking a motivated RF & Electronics Summer Placement Student for a full-time placement at our Cambridge office. This role is suited to students who have completed their penultimate year and will be returning for their final year after the summer. The placement offers hands-on experience in RF and electronics for students with a strong grounding in the field. The placement will last 12 weeks. Successful candidates should be available to start their placement between May and October 2026. There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. The Opportunity During the placement, your time will be split between contributing to a dedicated internal RF development project and supporting a range of live client projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining practical exposure to RF design, simulation, testing, and measurement in a professional consultancy environment. You will also have access to our extensive in-house facilities. Should you attend a face-to-face interview, we’ll provide a tour of our labs which support hardware development engineering during your visit. These include: Prototype PCB manufacturing facilities, including SMT pick-and-place, vapour-phase reflow and x-ray inspection EMC emissions test facility 5GHz 360° antenna test facility Some interesting high-speed electronics challenges that we’ve previously solved include: Overcoming smart meter challenges for the last 5% by developing a custom ZigBee to Long-Range Radio Bridge Design of a low-power, high-performance smart wearable for Accesso integrating multiple radios Developing a novel air-interface and bespoke communication systems for the Ocado Smart Platform controlling hundreds of robots in grocery distribution centres Next-generation Explosive Ordnance Disposal for the British Army What you'll be doing Field experiments to validate concepts PCB level RF circuit design and laboratory-based design validation Development of system models Antenna modelling using our sophisticated design tools As required, present designs, results and conclusions Work as part of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary project team focused on delivering design solutions to our clients What you can bring We are looking for someone currently studying towards a MEng degree in Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline, on track to achieve a 2.1 or above. You will also have: A solid foundation in electronic principles with an RF leaning. Familiarity with RF test equipment (such as spectrum analysers and network analysers). While not essential requirements, we would also be very interested if you have experience with any of the following: Knowledge of RF simulation tools, and experience in electronics design and schematic capture An understanding of RF measurements and lab-based debugging A motivated and detail-oriented engineer who is confident working in a hands-on laboratory environment will thrive in this role.
