Principal Communications Test & Commissioning Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Working model: Fully on-site
Salary: Up to £61,000 plus circa £2,000 bonus
A leading UK defence organisation is recruiting a senior engineer to support the build, test and commissioning of external communications systems on a major submarine programme. This is a hands-on, site-based role focused on test execution, fault resolution and system acceptance during build.
What you will be doing:
• Leading test, trial and commissioning activity for external communications systems during submarine build
• Supporting installation through to system maturity and final acceptance
• Planning and executing test and trial events on-board
• Managing subcontractors and specialist suppliers on-site during installation and test phases
• Investigating faults, defects and non-conformances through to resolution
• Providing technical expertise on communications systems performance and integration
• Supporting acceptance events and handover to operational teams
• Working closely with build, operations and platform staff throughout the lifecycle
What they are looking for:
• Strong background in test, trials or commissioning within a field engineering or construction environment
• Hands-on experience with communications systems
• Proven electrical or electronic fault-finding experience
• Comfortable working in complex, safety-critical environments
• Ability to take ownership of on-site test and commissioning activity
Desirable:
• HNC, HND or Degree in an electrical or electronic discipline
