This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals, interested in pursuing careers in Gynaecological Oncology to join a reputable and established team of clinicians and researchers. Based at the QE Hospital in Gateshead, the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre (NGOC) offers experience in developing extensive clinical and specialised surgical skills, in addition to pursuit of clinical research. NGOC offers a broad range of surgery, and is famed for its ultra-radical surgical repertoire, and early adoption of innovation. It is a European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) accredited Centre of Excellence for Ovarian Cancer.
This post is for 12 months initially and is extendable depending on the research project up to a maximum of 24 months. The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to lead on clinical research projects in the field of vulva cancer and ovarian cancer which will lead to relevant publications. The post is split 50:50 between research and clinical commitments, and allows the successful candidate to gain research credentials and experience in the clinical and surgical care of patients with gynaecological cancer.
Responsibilities
* Research Element (50%): Lead two specific clinical research projects in vulva and ovarian cancer, with opportunities to collaborate with other Fellows/gynaecological oncology trainees. Contribute significantly to the research aspect under a named research supervisor.
* Clinical Element (50%): Carry out clinical duties across a range of settings, including investigations, treatment planning, peri-operative care, and care of gynaecological oncology patients attending the SDEC. Participate in outpatient clinics (new and follow-up), colposcopy, and vulva clinics; assist in theatre and develop surgical skills.
* Work on a full shift rota with other trainees; no obstetric or general gynaecology on call. This is a non-resident on-call 1:7 on a 2-tier rota, with initial support from a Subspecialty Fellow and an off-site consultant.
Qualifications
* Essential: Valid GMC registration with licence to practice in the UK.
* Desirable: MRCOG or equivalent; progress towards Higher Medical Qualification; evidence of clinical audit; experience in O&G at senior SHO/ST level; experience in formal and informal teaching.

* Essential: Evidence of clinical audit; experience in O&G at senior SHO/ST level; experience in teaching (formal and informal).
* Desirable: Previous NHS employment; colposcopy experience / BSCCP accreditation or equivalent; research and teaching experience.
