Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The Department of Modern Languages and Literature at the University of the Pacific invites applications for an instructor/lecturer of Japanese for Fall 2025. The chosen candidate is expected to teach one Japanese course in the department. Please note that faculty rank and title are contingent upon the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications
* MA in Japanese or related field
Preferred Qualifications
* ABD or Ph.D. in Japanese or appropriate related field; Evidence of successful Japanese language teaching at the college level; Commitment to integration of technology into language instruction.
* Candidate must be able to perform duties unaided.
* Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
* Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
* Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work is performed during standard hours; Additional hours may be required to meet business needs or deadlines.
Hiring Range
Hiring Range $2376 per unit (We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.)
