Title:
Product Design Engineer (Fusion 360)
Company:
Race Anywhere
Location:
Daventry [Hybrid]
Type:
Full-time, Permanent
Reports to:
Founder/CEO
What you'll do
* Mechanical product focus
* Own the design cycle end-to-end:
brief → concepts → CAD (Fusion 360) → prototype → test → DFM/DFA → production hand-off.
* Design for real use:
meet market/customer requirements, ergonomics, and assembly/serviceability; translate feedback/warranty learnings into revisions.
* Engineer for strength & life:
run basic
FEA
in Fusion (static, fatigue where appropriate), tolerance stack-ups, and choose fasteners/threads/materials to hit safety factors.
* Prototype fast:
3D print, CNC/sheet-metal samples, and jigs/fixtures; document build/test notes.
* Validate rigorously:
bench tests (load, torque, slip, vibration), durability cycles, and simple DOEs; record results and iterate.
* Design for manufacture & cost:
produce
drawings with GD&T
, costed
BOMs
, and assembly instructions; collaborate with suppliers on tooling, finishes, and yield.
* Production support:
first-article approval, ECNs, and continuous improvement on quality issues.
What you'll bring
* 2–5 years
product/mechanical design experience (consumer hardware, sports, automotive, or similar).
* Strong
Fusion 360
CAD (assemblies, joints, configs) + basic
FEA
; competent with
GD&T
and tolerance analysis.
* Materials & processes: aluminium extrusions, sheet metal, CNC, injection-moulded plastics, casting; coatings/finishes knowledge.
* Hands-on prototyping/testing mindset; clear, concise documentation.
* Nice to have: experience with jigs/fixtures, supplier liaison, cost reduction, and simple automation ) for BOM/PLM hygiene.
What success looks like (90 days)
* 1–2 new concepts through prototype with test reports and a go/no-go decision.
* Updated design standards (fasteners, threads, finishes, torque specs).
* Supplier-ready drawing pack (GD&T) and costed BOM for one production part.
* Closed at least one quality/warranty root cause with an engineered fix.
Tools you'll use
Fusion 360 (CAD/FEA), Microsoft suite, internal tools, 3D printing tools, calipers/torque tools etc., test rigs, BOM/PLM sheets, support helpdesk.
