Overview

The Disability Inclusion Service at the University of Salford is looking for a new Disability Inclusion Adviser. We are seeking a motivated, empathetic and adaptable individual to work with disabled students, recognise their support needs, and develop Reasonable Adjustments Plans (RAPs) that meet students’ requirements to ensure fair and equitable access to their education.

Reporting to the Disability Inclusion Service managers, you will provide a high-quality and consistent specialist disability service to students, working with a wide range of disabilities and experiences, including autism spectrum conditions, specific learning difficulties, physical, mental and sensory disabilities, and health conditions. You will promote disability equality by raising awareness of disabled students’ entitlements and contribute to the continuous improvement of their experience at the university.


Key Responsibilities

* Conduct appointments with students and produce Reasonable Adjustments Plans (RAPs)
* Liaise with relevant University staff in central support services, faculties and schools to ensure appropriate support arrangements for disabled students
* Manage a caseload and provide case-specific advice to university staff when appropriate
* Liaise with external organisations and agencies involved in disabled students’ needs (e.g., assisting in the Disabled Students’ Allowances process or supporting students to set up Non-Medical Help)
* Challenge current academic practice where necessary to embed inclusive practice within teaching, learning and assessment


About The Department

The University of Salford’s Disability Inclusion Service is responsible for ensuring disabled students receive appropriate support and reasonable adjustments to access their education. The service is currently made up of a team of eight staff. We work closely with Academic Units and other Professional Services to ensure a holistic and joined-up approach to our support for students.
