Overview
The Public Health Team within Regulatory Services is seeking an Environmental Protection Officer to join our front‑line service. This role is key to protecting Enfield’s streets and public spaces by investigating complaints of domestic and commercial nuisances, filthy & verminous premises, waste on private land and defective drainage. There will be an opportunity to gain experience in air quality, contaminated land and permitted premises.
Responsibilities
This is a varied and active role, where you will spend much of your week out on district, investigating complaints, gathering evidence, and taking enforcement action where appropriate.
Qualifications
* Motivated and proactive officer with strong investigative and enforcement skills.
* Experience within a local authority environmental protection / pollution team desirable, but not essential.
* Existing Technical Officers or Environmental Health Officers (newly qualified candidates welcomed).
* Individuals with enforcement experience and a “can do” attitude who are eager to develop within environmental protection.
Key Requirements
* Ability to investigate complaints, record evidence, take witness statements, and prepare prosecution files to a high standard.
* Strong communication and organisational skills, with attention to detail in case management.
* Willingness to work independently across the borough as part of day‑to‑day duties.
* Ability to travel across Enfield – a full UK driving licence (or alternative transport) is essential.
