We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Health Visitor to take on a new challenge as a Specialist Immunisations Health Visitor (SIHV).
In this pivotal role, you will lead the delivery of an innovative Pathfinder programme designed to improve uptake of routine childhood immunisations among underserved populations in Central Camden. You will help embed immunisation services within the core Health Visiting offer, undertake assertive outreach to families not engaged with mainstream services, and provide enhanced follow-up for children aged 0–5 years with incomplete immunisations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health Visitor to step into a leadership role within Camden’s Integrated Early Years and Family Hub Service and contribute to a system-wide approach to reducing vaccine-preventable diseases and improving health outcomes for all children.

Main duties of the job
As a Specialist Immunisations Health Visitor (SIHV), you will play a vital role in improving childhood immunisation uptake among underserved communities in Central Camden. Key responsibilities include:
1. Embedding immunisation reviews into core Health Visiting contacts, especially the 2–2.5-year check.
2. Promoting catch-up vaccinations across all routine Health Visiting contacts (birth to 2.5 years).
3. Delivering outreach to families with incomplete immunisations, including home visits and community pop-up clinics.
4. Supporting families with culturally competent, flexible vaccine delivery – including in-home vaccinations where needed.
5. Identifying and engaging families whose children are unregistered with a GP or have missed multiple recall attempts.
6. Collaborating with GPs, community partners, and the Voluntary & Community Sector to increase uptake and access.
7. Training and mentoring colleagues to support confident, informed vaccine discussions and decisions.
8. Leading on vaccine equity, hesitancy, and culturally responsive care within the wider Health Visiting team.
9. Maintaining accurate clinical records, managing safe vaccine storage (Cold Chain), and reporting on outcomes.
10. Participating in MDTs, steering groups, and data-sharing efforts to continuously improve service quality and integration.
11. Contributing to service development, sharing learning, and supporting early years partnership events.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Role Specific Responsibilities
·Embed routine childhood immunisation review and delivery within the universal Health Visiting 2–2.5-year check, with delivery based at Regents Park Family Hub.
·Promote opportunistic catch-up immunisations during all 8 routine health visiting contacts in line with Camden’s Best Start for Baby programme.
·Co-deliver training and mentorship to Health Visiting colleagues to: Identify immunisation status.
·Deliver evidence-based education on vaccine safety and effectiveness.
·Support confident vaccine conversations and decision-making with families.
·Identify younger siblings of children with incomplete immunisations and coordinate catch-up.
·Use MECC (Making Every Contact Count) principles to connect families to wider Family Hub services and mainstream healthcare pathways.
·Deliver targeted outreach to children aged 0–5 not registered with a GP or those whose immunisations are incomplete after 3 failed call/recall attempts.
·Provide flexible, culturally competent outreach vaccine delivery; In-home vaccinations for families with barriers to clinic access.
·Vaccine delivery in local community venues and events.
·Build trusted relationships through partnerships with Voluntary Community Frontline Sector (VCFS) partners.
·Work collaboratively with GP practices in the CHE Federation (Central Camden) to improve immunisation uptake across practices.
·Access, use, and update child immunisation records, as well as relevant patient clinical records.
·Lead proactive engagement and communication using various methods, including calls, texts, letters, and home visits.
·Feedback to practices and key stakeholders on barriers to uptake and access.
·Coordinate with central call/recall teams and contribute to ongoing refinement of recall systems and data validation processes.
·Attend and contribute to Central Camden Neighbourhood MDT meetings.
·Act as a key member of the Camden Immunisation Steering Group.
·Work closely with Camden’s mobile health team to co-lead immunisation outreach via mobile health bus and pop-up clinics.
·Represent the immunisation pathway at Camden’s Family Hub and Early Years partnership events, as well as local VCSF forums.
·Share learning from Pathfinder implementation across the wider Camden Early Years workforce.
·Maintain professional clinical standards and safe vaccine handling, storage, and administration Cold Chain compliance.
·Participate in NHSE/Jitsuvax training programmes including empathetic, refutational interview (ERI) techniques.
·Provide leadership on vaccine hesitancy, equity, and culturally competent care within the wider Health Visiting workforce.
·Support safeguarding of vulnerable children and escalate concerns appropriately.
·Produce monthly immunisation uptake reports and case studies for local, regional, and national stakeholders.
·Maintain accurate, timely and secure records in line with audit and data protection policies

The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses and all nurses and all Health Visitor SCPHNs, are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code.
