Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Transport Planner to co-ordinate and plan the general haulage fleet whilst working as part of the operations team ensuring compliance, efficiency and profitable performance across the rigid and articulated general fleets. The role requires a detail-driven individual with strong organisational skills and experience in a similar role.
Duties
* Ensure effective planning and allocation of resources to ensure compliance and operational performance is maintained for clients and operations.
* Monitor and adjust transport plans as necessary to address changes in workloads or unforeseen events.
* Develop relationships with existing customers and source and establish relationships with new suitable clients.
* Communicate with drivers over allocation of work and in the solving of issues and also effective debriefing upon completion of tasks.
* Effective and profitable decision making when utilising approved sub-contractors.
* Actively seek out new sub-contractors to join our approved pool.
* Effective and professional communication with customers, drivers and suppliers.
* Ensure vehicles and equipment are available when required to maintain legal road worthiness requirements.
* Allocation of resources and the accurate inputting and management of data on our internal TMS.
* Maintain high standards and quality of work completed.
* Effective liaison with all other departments internally.
* General office and administration duties as required.
* Provide evening and weekend on-call cover via telephone.
Essential Skills
* Previous experience in a similar role.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work in a high pressured, fast paced environment.
* High attention to detail.
* Competent IT skills.
* Ability to thrive both individually and as part of a team.
* Be able to develop excellent working relationships with both fellow employees, customers and sub-contractors.
* Excellent organisation and time management skills.
* An excellent geographical knowledge.
* An understanding of drivers hours and other transport regulations.
