Job Title: Director, Communications and Marketing Physical Location: Kent Campus - Kent, OH Salary: $77,158- $98,349 Basic Function: Serve as the strategic lead for marketing and communications within a designated college, and serves as the primary liaison between the college and University Communications and Marketing (UCM), coordinating strategy, content development, digital engagement and performance assessment. Reports to the Dean with a dotted-line reporting relationship to UCM to ensure alignment with university-wide brand strategy and messaging. Additional Basic Function – if applicable: Examples of Duties: Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: Work in partnership with the Dean and UCM leadership to develop and execute a strategic communications and marketing plan for the college. Collaborate with academic departments across the college to understand and document program differentiators and priorities, serving as the subject matter expert who translates those insights into compelling marketing and communications. Participate on university-wide, cross-team collaborations to further themes and initiatives. Partner with UCM to identify and create strategic, multimedia content and integrated storytelling campaigns that elevate the reputation of the college and the university that focus on the college’s academic programs, faculty achievements, student successes, and research initiatives, ensuring alignment with university goals and campaigns. Work with University Events, and college leadership and staff to plan, execute and market high-impact events that support both the college and university’s strategic objectives. Provide reports to the Dean and UCM on campaign performance, audience engagement, and strategic insights, ensuring data-informed decision-making. May provide direct supervision to unclassified employees. Provide direct supervision to student employees and/or student interns. Perform relations duties as assigned. Additional Examples of Duties – if applicable: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications. License/Certification: Knowledge Of: Digital channels, content strategy, and social media management Strategic communications, marketing, and brand management principles Higher education environments and the role of communications in advancing academic and institutional priorities Skill In: Developing and executing strategic marketing and communications plans Project management with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Multimedia content creation, writing, editing, and storytelling with a focus on audience engagement Interpreting data and metrics to inform decision-making Interpersonal communication and collaboration to build effective partnerships Ability To: Work collaboratively across teams and departments Foster cooperation and alignment between college and UCM teams Anticipate communications opportunities and respond proactively to emerging issues or trends Think strategically and translate institutional priorities into actionable communication plans Travel between campus locations and off-campus as needed Preferred Qualifications – if applicable: Master’s degree in a relevant field. Experience in a matrixed reporting structure or working across multiple stakeholders. Familiarity with marketing analytics and performance measurement tools. Experience in multimedia strategic content, media relations, and event marketing. Experience in higher education, non-profit, or complex organizations.
